MY FAVOURITE FACIAL MOISTURISER RECIPE

40ml (8 tsps) White Beeswax
80g Coco Butter
350ml Grape seed oil
5 ml (1 tsp) Borax
350ml Rose or Lavender Water

20 – 30 Drops of the following Essential oils

Lavender
Jasmine
Geranium

Heat the beeswax in a double boiler, adding all the oils, fats etc. (On a low heat) Heat the Rose Water & borax in the microwave for 2 minutes. Take out, stir and put to one side. Once all the oils, fats & beeswax have melted, and is warm then take it off the stove onto a cool surface (Wooden bread board) and gradually (I mean bit by bit) add the borax and rose water. (Remember bit-by-bit, otherwise you will end up with a separated mixture and a waste of money).

Whip with a wire whisk, quickly and rapidly, and make sure that when you add the rosewater & borax solution, that you whisk it in properly, so as not to form lumps. Do this until all the rosewater and borax solution is used up and continue whisking until the mixture is cool and thickish. Then add the essential oils and pour into jars.

This recipe makes 10 x 100ml Jars

Enjoy!

Make your own Facial Toner "Easy Peezy"

Pour 500ml of boiling water over a cup full of red rose petals OR  Lavender Buds and steep for ± 3 hours.  Strain through a paper filter, bottle and refrigerate.  You can add 5 Drops of Rose or Lavender essential oil to your toner.

For Oily skin
Add 1 - 2 tsps Witch hazel if you have oily skin.

For Dry or Dehydrated or Mature Skin
You can add 2 TBS Aloe Vera Gel and 3 Drops Rose & 2 Drops Sandalwood oil. (Optional)

Mix in a dark glass bottle, shake well before use. Store in Fridge to make it last longer. (I don't as I use it up too quickly)
Apply gently with cotton wool. This recipe usually lasts me ±4 weeks. If you do not have a dark glass bottle, then you can use a see thru glass bottle, but store it in a dark place, and make sure it is sealed properly.

CLAY, AVOCADO & HONEY MASK (For dehydrated skin)

Mash 1 tablespoon ripe avocado, add 1/2 tsp honey and mix. Stir in a 1 Tablespoon Kaolin Clay until the whole thing is of a pleasant creamy consistency. You can add 2 - 3 drops of Chamomile or Patchouli. optional). Apply to clean skin, leave on for 15-20 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water, massaging gently as you remove to exfoliate the skin.

FRUIT MASK

You can also make masks from mashed fruit pulp, alone or mixed with OATMEAL or KAOLIN Clay OR YOGHURT  and honey till you get the right consistency.  Strawberry for oily skin, Avocado for dry skin, Apple for acne skin, Carrots for sensitive skin.

Mix together till you get a creamy consistency, apply and leave on for 10 - 15 minutes.

MY FAVOURITE LIP TREAT RECIPE (Stimulates, regenerates, restores, heals and revives)

1 Vitamin E capsule

2 tsps Beeswax

1 TBS Calendula infused Olive Oil

2 TBS Sweet Almond Oil

3 TBS Avocado Oil

1 TBS Apricot Kernel Oil

1 tsp Aloe Vera oil

1 tsp Coco Butter

¼ tsp Honey

8 Drops Carrot oil

10 Drops of Sweet Orange Essential oil

20 Drops of Neroli Essential oil

15 Drops of Lavender Essential oil

Measure oil, Beeswax and coco butter into a glass or enamel pan. Melt over low heat. A hot plate works well and reduces the risk of overheating the oils. I use a small glass jar to store my lip balm in so I just mix all the ingredients right in the jar and then place it in the pan of water to melt the waxes. Stir the mixture often until the wax is melted. Remove from heat and stir in honey and essential oil. Pinch open the VIT E capsule and squeeze the content into the mixture.

Stir well. Pour the mixture into containers. Label after it has solidified.  If you want your honey to be dispersed throughout the lip balm you will need to stir it as it is solidifying.  Make your lip Balm using a herbal oil in place of the olive oil.

This recipe makes 5 x 20ml Lip Containers.

MOISTURISING SOAP BASE  (Pg 29)

Tracing happens in ± 1 hour. (Makes about 15 Large Chunky Bars)

METHOD:
Weigh out oils, beeswax and fats using either oz or grams (not both). Melt over a low heat. Turn off heat and leave till oils reach approx 54.4ºC. (13ºF), stirring intermittently.

Meanwhile weigh out the Caustic Soda and water.  Pour Caustic Soda into the water and stir until dissolved.  Leave till temperature settles to 54ºC (130ºF).  Wear rubber gloves and don't inhale the fumes.  Slowly pour the Caustic Soda in a thin stream into the fats while stirring continuously. Stir intermittently until mixture thickens to the point where you can trickle some soap off the spoon and it will leave a trace line on the surface of the mixture.  This is called "trace".

Add essential oils and mix.  Then pour into greased moulds. Cover to keep warm and leave for 24 hrs or until hard. Then wearing rubber gloves turn out the soap and cut into bars.  Leave open on a tray and leave to cure for 2 - 4 weeks before use.  (Super fatting is NOT Necessary with the above recipe)

REPLENISHING CUTICLE & HAND MOISTURE CREAM

Extremely dry or dehydrated skin looses its elasticity and can wrinkle more easily. Relieve dry, flaky skin with the aroma therapeutic nutrients in this moisturizing cream.

4 oz. almond oil
1/2 oz. beeswax
3 oz. rosewater
10 drops rose oil
8 drops sandalwood oil
5 drops lavender oil
8 drops patchouli oil

Blend oils together. Then melt the beeswax and almond oil in a double boiler. Decrease the heat and gradually add the rosewater in a thin stream, while vigorously beating the mixture. Remove from heat as soon as the water is incorporated. When the mixture cools and turns creamy, add the essential oils. Gently rub on elbows, hands and any other dry parts of the body.

Facial Scrub  (All Skin types)

Ingredients:

Fine Sea Salt 1/8 cup

Oatmeal (the kind you get in the grocery store is fine) 1/2 cup

Unscented Shower & Bath Gel 2 oz.

Bergamot essential oil 10 drops

Lemon essential oil 15 drops

Ylang Ylang 3rd essential oil 5 drops

Notes: This is a gentle facial scrub that I mixed especially for oily skin although it would work fine for any skin type. The scent is a nice pick-me-up in the morning too. It made my skin smooth and soft so I decided to use it as a body I'll admit, as a body scrub its a little messy, but if you rinse well you won't walk out of the shower with oatmeal behind your ears like I did. Other essential oils can be substituted in this mix for other skin types or scents.

Directions: To make the Facial Scrub mix all Ingredients in a non-breakable container, you will want to cut up your Oatmeal first in a blender or something of that nature so the pieces are not so big. If you need more of an exfolliant effect add some Whole Poppy Seeds.

HANDMADE SOAPS - DIVINE! i HAVE BEEN MAKING SOAPS FOR 20 YEARS, THESE RECIPES WORK!

ALWAYS CHECK!

The above 84 (Iodine) will make the soap too soft.

Do NOT use more than 5% of Castor oil of total fats, otherwise your soap will be too soft!

Try to get the combined conditioning oils over 60.

GOOD CONDITIONING SOAP !!!

BATCH SIZE:   2760g

500g  Palm Kernel oil
900g Olive oil
500g Holsum
800g Sunflower oil
60g Beeswax

385g/
oz Caustic Soda
861g /
oz Water

SUPER FAT – 120g Coco Butter

COCOA BUTTER DREAM

1000g Palm Kernel
200g
Cocoa Butter
500g Olive Oil
600g Sunflower oil
100g Castor Oil
338g Lye (5% superfatted)

756g water or water/milk

You can use all water or about 1/2 water and 1/2 milk. Add lye to water only, stirring until dissolved and then add the lye water, room temp, to the warmed oils, stir it in and then add the milk. (Milk must be Ice cold or frozen into ice blocks, before use) as milk causes the caustic Soda and milk solution to curdle and smell off if not done cold and slowly!

ALL OLIVE OIL SOAP

454g/ 16 oz. pure olive oil
57g/ 2 oz. Lye (Caustic Soda)
170g/ 6 oz. Water

Place the olive oil in an enamel pan to heat. While this is heating place the cup of cold water   into a glass bowl (do this outside if you can) and pour the lye into the water slowly while stirring with a wooden spoon.   Stir until the water is clear and leave to cool. When the lye and olive oil is both warm to the touch pour the lye slowly into the olive oil while stirring. Now olive oil soap will take a long time to trace so stir and check on it every 10 minutes and then stir again it should take a good hour or more to trace.

When you see trace, add whatever herbs you would like (I use dried sage) this gives a nice scent and a nice green color. Place into whatever plastic molds you are using. This will yield one pound of soap. Be sure you have greased your molds with a little olive oil. These moulds will need to set anywhere from two to three days before the soap is set.

HARD CREAMY BAR

 Makes ± 20 Bars

750 g Coconut oil

750 g Olive oil

1.2kg White Margarine

375g Caustic Soda

1 kg Water

Substituted 440g of water for Coconut Milk
90g of Olive oil for
Coco butter wax.

Super fat with Castor oil or Coco Butter
30ml Essential oil/ Fragrance
3 Tablespoons Dried Herbs

(Colouring – None OR a tip of a tsp of colour pigment)

HONEY-VANILLA-OATS

Batch makes:  2950g  (Fills one Tupperware square container)

1550g Palm kernel oil
1400g Sunflower oil
449g Caustic Soda
1004g Water

SUPER FATTED with Coco Butter ( 100g)

50ml Vanilla Fragrance
½ Cup Oatmeal
2 TBS Honey

METHOD FOR ALL RECIPES ABOVE:

Use an old large pot and old Wooden Spoon. (Cover all your wooden surfaces with newspaper.) Always measure out the caustic soda last! Get your stick blender or whisk out to blend the soap together.

Melt your oils and butters and wax’s on a medium heat till melted. DO NOT LET IT BOIL!

Take the oils off the heat. Measure out your water accurately and put in a aluminium saucepan. Measure out your fragrances in little bowls and keep aside for later.

LASTLY measure out you caustic soda in a old plastic or glass bowl. Open all your windows.

(Try not to inhale the fumes!  Keep away fumes from pregnant women or people that suffer with Asthma.)

Add the caustic Soda to the water and stir slowly, until dissolved. DO NOT Spill, or inhale. It will eat your kitchen cupboards and stove’s metal up.

When the caustic soda has dissolved, then slowly add it to the oils and waxes mixture. SLOWLY ! Then use the stick blender and blend until it reaches trace! (Trace means when it reaches a certain thickness, that when you drop a bit on top of the rest of the mixture, you see a slight lump. Then you know it is tracing!

IF YOU WANT YOUR SOAP TO BE SUPER MOISTURISING, then SUPERFAT THEM. This means that you must add emollient oil like Castor oil, or Coco Butter or Glycerine after trace.

That is just before you put it in in the dish to set overnight.

Now add your fragrances and Lavender buds, or oats, etc. Mix thoroughly through. Pour into your dish to set. Cover with a lid. The wrap it in a warm old blanket for 24hrs.

The next day the same time, you should be able to pop out your soap on a marble or wooden board and cut it into nice chunks.  Lay the wooden chunks out on a tray lined with wax paper. Leave to set for 3 days. Turn the soaps around every night so as to get dry quicker.  (YES 3 DAYS IS CORRECT!!)

The soap can now be used or wrapped for presents.

Enjoy!
